The Fairchild Group, which owns a number of high-profile media properties in Vancouver including Fairchild Television, recently endowed a new scholarship of $2,000 annually to alternate each year between the Graduate School of Journalism and the UBC Film Production Program. Thomas Fung, owner and founder, presented the award.
The award is bestowed on the recommendation of the Department of Theatre and Film in even-numbered years and on the recommendation of the School of Journalism in odd-numbered years. Preference is given to Canadian and international students with good academic standing who are focusing on cultural diversity and entrepreneurial leadership.
UBC Graduate School of Journalism Director Mary Lynn Young said the award is a terrific opportunity for journalism students. “This award reflects both UBC’s and Fairchild Television’s commitment to support the rich talent and perspectives that make up Canadian culture, and will provide students with the opportunity to tell even more diverse stories about our country.”
