Prof Alfred Hermida will be presenting a paper at the forthcoming International Symposium on Online Journalism at the University of Texas in Austin.
His peer-reviewed paper, entitled “The BBC goes blogging: Is ‘Auntie’ finally listening?”, examines how a mainstream news institution has incorporated blogging as a tool for transparency and accountability in its journalism.
The conference, held 4-5 April at the University of Texas at Austin, is unique in bringing both top editors and academics to discuss where journalism is going. It also stands out for its international approach, with speakers from Brazil, Britain, Colombia, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and the UAE.
Now in its ninth year, the symposium has been a small, but very intense conference that serves as a barometer for the state of online journalism.
