J-Student wins $42,000 health communications award



Rebecca Cheung (‘11), who has a BScH and MSc from Queen’s University, was awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Health Research Communications Award.

The award was given to four students nationally and includes $21,000 in annual graduate student funding.

Cheung, who specialized in gastro-intestinal physiology, will be using the support to focus on her expertise – making current “bench top” science more accessible to audiences.

“I am very excited to be here at the UBC Graduate School of Journalism,” said Cheung, who grew up in Mississauga, Ont.
