Amy Juschka’s (‘09) graduating thesis project has been published on TheTyee.ca. Juschka, who is currently Managing Editor for Megaphone Magazine, is a committed activist for the rights of the underprivileged.
Her story is published in two parts: the first is entitled Five Star Soup Kitchen and the second Death Lurks in Cupboard.
The articles concern the inadequacy of nutritional meals in Vancouver’s soup kitchens, adding to health problems for poorer residents and the homeless.
In a larger context, Juschka questions the province’s and country’s relinquishment of responsibility through their increasing reliance on private donations instead of government funding and programs to help those living beneath the poverty line.
