The Perfect Story, Michelle Shephard, provided by the National Film Board of Canada

This lunch-time public event welcomes Michelle Shepard, an award-winning Canadian journalist, author, filmmaker, podcast host and producer. Throughout her career, Michelle has received a Peabody Award, three National Newspaper Awards, the Governor-General’s Mihener Award, and an Emmy nomination for her diverse and outstanding body of work.

Her most recent film, The Perfect Story(2022), is a gripping tale of migration, narrative, and ethics, told with the utmost sensitivity and respect. It chronicles Shephard’s journey as she documents – and eventually assists with – a young Somali refugee’s migration, only to find a shocking revelation. By exposing the boundaries of journalism and filmmaking, the film questions what stories are told, why, and who gets to tell them.

On February 27th, Michelle will share some of her most memorable excerpts and experiences, followed by a Q&A session. Event is open to the general public and free of charge. Pizza from Uncle Fatih’s and drinks will be provided.
