The School of Journalism is pleased to announce that Frances Bula has joined the School this semester as the Canwest Visiting Professor.
Bula, a journalist specializing in urban issues and city politics in the Vancouver area, brings to the School over 21 years of experience as a reporter for the Vancouver Sun. She also has a regular column in Vancouver Magazine and Urban Fix, contributes frequently to the Globe & Mail and a variety of other publications, as well as does political commentary for CKNW and CBC Radio.
As a journalism educator, Bula has been teaching a wide variety of courses in the field since 2007. She has taught at Langara College, Simon Fraser University, and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
“Frances is an exceptional journalist and an exceptional teacher,” said Peter Klein. “Our students are fortunate to have someone like her teaching them reporting skills and showing them to wealth of important stories in Vancouver.”
Bula will be co-teaching the School of Journalism’s Integrated Journalism (iJournalism) course this fall, which is designed to familiarize students with the grammar and syntax of media across platforms, including text, audio and video. It provides hands-on experience in a simulated multimedia environment. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, meeting deadlines, and learning the elements of journalistic style.
