The Graduate Academic Assistant will provide administrative, research, communications, and event-planning support for the preparation and delivery of Canadian Studies 450: Who are Canadians listening to? Journalists, Creators, Influencers and AI and the McLean Chair in Canadian Studies Lecture Series in Spring 2027.
The position will primarily support the operational and logistical preparation of the course and lecture series. Duties will include preparing and organizing the Canvas course site, conducting general background research and information gathering to support course and lecture-series preparation, assisting with presentation materials, coordinating event logistics, and supporting communications and social media related to the McLean Chair lecture events.
The work is intended to provide general academic and event administration support and is not instructional in nature.
WORK PERFORMED:
- Uploading readings to Canvas, and support guest speakers and logistics for CDST 450
- Event planning such as creating and sharing social media posts, and supporting event planning logistics
- Qualitative Research for McLean Chair talks
- Create presentation materials for McLean Chair talks
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled as a graduate student in Journalism or related discipline
- Ability to quickly critically appraise sources and identify interesting, relevant, and original paths
- Ability to support event planning and create presentation materials
- Excellent analytical, writing, and editorial skills with an attention to detail
- Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions with minimal guidance
- Self‑directed, organized, and responsible
